Long-Term Care

at Episcopal Church Home

Our Mission

Episcopal Church Home was founded in 1894 by Sister Annette Relf, a nurse and Minnesota’s first Episcopal deaconess. Her mission then, and our mission now, is to:

Support your individual physical, social & spiritual needs

    Provide you with quality healthcare

   Serve you with compassion

    Preserve your rights and dignity

For 117 years, we have been welcoming people from all walks of life. If you choose to live here, the Church Home will be your home. That means your family and friends will always be as welcome as you are.

Your Decision

Changing one’s living situation later in life is a big decision. We ensure that it will be an informed decision by doing a thorough, multi-disciplinary assessment of your needs and sharing it with you and your family prior to admission.

If we believe that we’re a good fit, we’ll tell you so. If we believe that a different type of facility would be a better fit, we’ll tell you that too. We want to make sure that your big decision is the right decision for your unique set of physical, social and spiritual needs.

Support for your Physical Needs

A continuum of care. We have the nursing skills and resources to provide you with the optimum level of care as your needs change over time, from basic medication management for board and care residents through hospice if the need arises.

High resident-to-staff ratio. This is what makes us feel like family. Our people have the time to become friends as well as healthcare providers.

Primary care doctors. Our nursing staff will gladly coordinate your care with your current doctor, but some residents and their families have found that shuttling to and from their doctor’s office can be a burden. If that’s the case for you, we can arrange for you to receive your care from a doctor who visits us every week. You can choose from HealthEast, Health Partners or Medica.

Physical, occupational and speech therapy. If your doctor prescribes it, ours is unsurpassed. Our therapists work closely with you and your doctor to help restore, enhance and maintain your abilities.

Visiting specialists too! No need to leave home home for specialized care! We receive regular visits from a dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, radiologist, audiologist, lab technician and psychologist.

Support for your Social Needs

Household Living. When our $11 million renewal project was completed in late 2008, we said good-bye to hospital-like nursing stations and hello to the Household model of care. It was a revolutionary change for which our staff had been preparing throughout 18 months of construction work. Daily life in our Households closely mirrors that of living in a private home with family caregivers. As a result, the physical and cognitive status of residents frequently improves, and they're happier because they’re empowered to call the shots much as they did in their own homes.

Places to go. The Café , Gift Shop, the Silver Curl beauty shop and chapel are always popular destinations. We also have secluded courtyards and comfortable lounges (one with an aviary for bird watching).

Things to do. Every Friday, our residents receive a HAPPENINGS bulletin. It tells them about all of the activities that will be happening in the Households on their floor in the week ahead. There’s always something for everyone, and given the broad range of resident interests and abilities, that’s saying a lot! Much of the credit for this must be given to the Community Circles in our Households. Who would know more about what our residents want to do than our residents? Support for your Spiritual Needs

Spiritual Life Staff and Volunteers. Our Director of Spiritual Life is The Rev. Kay Provine, an Episcopal priest. Everyone calls her "Chaplain Kay." Our other chaplain, Lisa Nilles, is from the Roman Catholic tradition. Chaplain Kay, Chaplain Lisa and about 60 dedicated volunteers (some of whom hail from other residences on our campus), provide group and one-to-one support for the spiritual life of residents of all faiths.
